Amsterdam - 2009
It was one of those "gin and tonic on the patio" ideas... "Let's go to Paris for your birthday on one of these cheap
flights we're looking at". Well, Paris was booked solid, Rome was out, Milan was too awkward for connections but,
Amsterdam worked like a damn (no pun intended). Victoria organized a canal boat for accommodation and soon we were
off for 5 nights and 4 days of sheer fun. Every day was a minimum 6-7 hours of walking interspersed repeatedly with
stops for cold beers and nibblies. Museums, flower markets, flea markets, cheese stores, a church and many
photographs later!
Comfy home away from home - with wine and
beer in the fridge, espresso coffee machine and
shampoo in the shower!
Looking left during evening cocktails.....lots of sightseeing
boats with the tourists inside thinking we were locals!
Naturally, we smiled, waved and posed!
To the right is a local cafe and in the distance, the clock
tower of Westkerk. We heard the same hourly bells
that Anne Frank would have heard, some 65 years ago.
The Dutch equivalent of a Sunday drive...
Cafe life...
"Low beer light" finally stopped flashing...
Lot's of restaurants and "coffee shops"
You have to wonder....who looks
after the flowers on the bridges?
All the comforts of home...
Bikes, bikes, bikes and more bikes...even a truck bike
Check out the flowers on the canal boats...
That pesky flashing "low beer light"...
