Nepal Travelogue
Here is a whirlwind tour of our very, very, crazy
Nepal adventure!

It all starts with a couple days in Hong Kong...just a
little shopping before what turns out to be even
more shopping.

"YOU PAY TOO MUCH!"
It never gets any clearer than this
The Star ferry rocks
Eye candy

Drying
squid

Incense
Checked out Chueng Chau ... an island
45 minutes by ferry from Hong Kong
Our next adventure comes in the form of a 1,000 foot
runway, give or take a couple feet.  With a heroic and
hair-raising landing, we are in Lukla, a magical place.
Check out the drop-off at the end of the runway!
And, some great bargains at Stanly Market
...walking...walk
ing.. luckily we
don't carry
loads anything
like those that
you see here.
The average
load a porter
will carry can
weigh between
75 and 150
pounds and
for only
pennies per
pound per
day. Notice
how they rest
their loads on
the benches.
Walking through downtown Lukla ... first day's treking
Passports
and permits
are checked
carefully at
the park gate.
The renewed
terrorism
activity in
Nepal has
resulted in an
armed guards
on alert.
Scary!
Natural curiosity from the Nepalese children and
unfortunately, not above begging and tough to resist.
First camp night - waiting while the Sherpas set up the tents
This new bridge was the best ... solid with only a slight
sway!
Drying yak dung ... winter fuel for stoves.
The climb up to Namche begins on the other side of this
bridge. Prayer scarves (katas) fly in the breeze. Yaks have
the right of way for obvious reasons.
