Nepal Travelogue
Here we are in Namche, an amazing little
village that exists at 11,300 feet in a
natural ampitheatre setting among the
Himalayas.

Namche is the place of the infamous
Saturday market where the Nepalese and
Tibetans sell fruit, vegetables, meat,
cooking supplies and clothing - the
essentials for living or trekking through
the Khumbu.

This is pretty much 'tent
life'...you get very adept
at identifying what slope
angle will be ideal (or
NOT ideal) for sleeping
each night,
and just how far away
from the Yaks (a good
thing),
and the Sharphee (a bad
thing), you want to be ....
critical considerations for
middle of the night pee
missions.
Our view from "camp de base"
Machermo Campsite ...one day rest for acclimatisation while our porters play...they look young but are incredibly strong
Our family celebrates at the peak of Gokyo Ri.
This portion of our trek saw us reach close to 18,000 feet.
The last push started at 4:00AM heading out from Gokyo
with our headlamps and a lot of warm gear. Sunrise halfway
up and blue sky on the top.
And thoughts of pringles, beer and for Dad - steak and a
"meaty" red - running through your head to keep you
trudging up the steep, airless slope!!
Tough to beat the view from the tent
The view from the top was pretty spectacular .... the lateral
moraine of Nepal's largest glacier provides a barrier that
the village of  Gokyo nestles against, on the edge of the
"Third Lake" ... our starting place many hours ago.
An awesome memory for a brother and sister
We hung prayer flags on the top and listened to our Sherpa,
"Kacherie", chant his morning prayers. Victoria is looking pretty
cool about the exposure!
Meet Ama Dablam, a peak that stands at 22, 494 feet - a
shocking 7,800 feet higher than the Matterhorn though it
looks similar.  This peak is a stunning sight and with you
for much of the trail.
The end of that long day saw us continuing on to our
next campsite at Na. Check out the trail on the top left.

Mt. Everest is
seen on the right in
